Location:
Located in central Maine in the Kennebec watershed, the fishery at The Forks is on Highway 201 a few miles South of West Fork, Maine.  It is about 100 miles from Bangor, Maine which has good air service.   There is connecting service into West Fork.  The Forks is a wilderness area with a very small localized population but located not too far South from West Fork.  The Forks is the confluence of the Dead River and the Kennebec River.

Description:
The Kennebec is 230 miles long starting at Moosehead Lake and flowing into the Atlantic at Merrymeeting Bay.  It is a good salmon fishery in general coming up from the Atlantic and becoming better with changes in the management of the river and removal of Edwards Dam in 1999.  Stripers are also starting to come up river to spawn.

The claim to fame of The Forks area fishery is world class Smallmouth fishing offering 3 to 4 pound bass consistently.  Fishing is excellent.  Guides are available if desired and can enhance a great experience.  Fishing is done on Kennebec and on the Dead River.  This is an area where your efforts will not leave you disappointed.  You can bank fish, wade or go by boat.

The area offers great white water rafting as well and camping and hiking.  Offering beautiful forests and wildlife, The Forks has lots to keep you interested in addition to the great fishing.  The are plentiful accommodations in the area.

Size:
The river is moderately wide and can run to depths that over 6 feet in holes.  We view the fishery as extending 20 miles in both directions from The Forks.

Weather:
Beautiful summers, cold winters.

Fishing Methods:
Fly fishing and gear fishing are both productive and fun on the river.

Season:
The season runs approximately from late May to late September.  Check the local regulations for up to date rules and times.
